DSIP

Also known as: Delta sleep-inducing peptide

Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) is a short neuropeptide first described in the 1970s. Research consists of small, older human sleep-laboratory studies and a modest number of rodent studies; its mechanism remains unresolved.

Mechanism studied

How DSIP acts is not established: no specific receptor has been confirmed, and a 2006 review described it as a still unresolved riddle [1]. In a 2024 mouse study, researchers measured changes in serum melatonin and serotonin after DSIP, which the authors proposed as possible contributors to the observed sleep and behavior changes [2]. These links are proposed, not demonstrated.
