Also known as: Pralmorelin
GHRP-2 (pralmorelin) is a synthetic hexapeptide growth hormone secretagogue that acts on the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a). Research consists mainly of older hormone-release, rodent, cell and livestock studies.
Established: GHRP-2 is an agonist of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a) and raises circulating GH; in mice with a non-functional GHRH receptor it still produced a small GH rise, indicating GH release only partly dependent on the GHRH pathway [1]. Proposed: in rat muscle and C2C12 myocytes, GHRP-2 lowered expression of the muscle ubiquitin ligases atrogin-1 and MuRF1 independent of IGF-I, an effect blocked by a GHS-R1a antagonist [2].
| Study | Model | Reported result | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| GH response in GHRH-receptor-mutant mice [1] | Mouse Little (lit/lit) mice, heterozygous (lit/+) and wild-type C57BL/6J mice; single GHRP-2 challenge | Serum GH reached 9.3 ng/mL in lit/lit mice (vs 1.04 control), 34.5 in lit/+ and 163 ng/mL in wild-type mice. | Peer-reviewed Clinics 2012 |
| Muscle ubiquitin ligases in a dexamethasone model [2] | Rat Dexamethasone-exposed rats (soleus muscle) and differentiated C2C12 mouse myocytes | GHRP-2 reduced dexamethasone-induced atrogin-1 mRNA and lowered MuRF1 mRNA; plasma and muscle IGF-I were unchanged; a GHS-R1a blocker abolished the cell effects. | Peer-reviewed Life Sciences 2008 |
| GHRP-2 in a hamster heart-muscle model [3] | Other animal δ-sarcoglycan-deficient TO-2 hamsters (inherited heart-muscle model) versus untreated animals | Researchers reported less left-ventricular remodeling, better systolic function and lower myocardial oxidative-stress markers. | Peer-reviewed Circulation Journal 2010 |
| GHRP-2 and growth in slow-growing yaks [4] | Other animal Growth-retarded one-year-old Qinghai plateau yaks; GHRP-2 and cysteamine compared | Researchers measured body-weight gain, somatotropic-axis hormones (GHRH, GH, IGF-I) and muscle protein deposition. | Peer-reviewed PLOS ONE 2016 |
