Also known as: ALT-801
An investigational GLP-1 and glucagon receptor dual agonist peptide developed by Altimmune. It has published phase 2 human trials and mouse studies.
Pemvidutide is a balanced dual agonist with near-equal potency at the GLP-1 and glucagon receptors in lab assays (EC50 about 39 and 42 pM) [1]. It carries a glycolipid moiety (EuPort) that binds serum albumin and slows release, which researchers report extends its duration of action [1]. The proposed rationale is that glucagon-receptor activity adds effects on liver fat and energy use on top of GLP-1-receptor effects on appetite; this is supported mainly by mouse comparisons with semaglutide [1].
| Study | Model | Reported result | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mouse liver-fat model [1] | Mouse Male C57BL/6J mice on AMLN diet 32 weeks, biopsy-confirmed liver fat and fibrosis, then 12 weeks of daily administration, n=11-12 per group | Researchers reported body-weight, liver-histology and fibrosis-stage measurements vs semaglutide; see publication. | Peer-reviewed Sci Rep 2022 |
| 12-week liver-fat trial [2] | Human 94 adults, randomized 1:1:1:1 to three strengths or placebo, double-blind, 12 weeks | Primary endpoint: relative change in liver fat content. Published | Peer-reviewed J Hepatol 2024 |
| IMPACT phase 2b [3] | Human 212 adults with biopsy-confirmed fibrosis stage F2-F3, randomized 1:2:2, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 83 sites; 24-week report of a 48-week trial | Dual primary endpoints at 24 weeks: liver-biopsy inflammation resolution and fibrosis-stage improvement. Published | Peer-reviewed Lancet 2025 |
